Railay Bay was covered in monkeys. The good kind and bad kind. The bad kind were the macas. Since Matt and I have been “involved” in monkey bloodshed before we used our skills to avoid another incident. Other tourists weren’t so lucky. We witnessed a raid on a baby buggy (with baby inside) And then saw a woman look up from under a monkey tree and get pooped on. For some reason she was blessed and had others take a photo of her.
Good monkeys were there too. The howlers made loud sounds through the jungle and there were these black monkeys with white mustaches and eye rings that were cute and nice. By the way jungle monkey meat is tough to chew like rubber bands… That’s how Ron described it when Batha served us some for dinner earlier in the trip.
We are enjoying being back at home, and are doing the best we can to adjust and fight jet-lag. Our second day in Bay was really fun. Since it was our last day we decided to hike around to different beaches. We even climbed a mountain! It took us a couple hours and was really fun to get deep into the jungle. We got to a high point where we could see both bays our hotel was on. We tried to make it to a remote lagoon to go swimming, but the last stretch was practically a cliff, and you needed shoes to repel down (there was a rope). We debated going down for a long time, then a strapping little Spanish man climbed up and advised us not to try. He said it wasn’t impossible but that we would need “a lot of time and a hard foot.”
